Neurofeedback Therapy

Neurofeedback therapy (or brainwave training) is a non-invasive way to help your brain learn to self-regulate by measuring its electrical activity (brainwaves) and giving you real-time feedback, rewarding you when your brain produces desired patterns, like calmness or focus, teaching it to function better over time for conditions like ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, or TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).

How it works:

  • Measurement: Sensors are placed on your scalp to read your brainwave activity (EEG).
  • Feedback: A computer translates this activity into visualized brainwaves on the computer. Therapeutic waves are “fed back” to your brain to encourage a healthier brainwave pattern.
  • Training: When your brain responds by producing a desired healthier pattern (e.g., calmer waves), the feedback is positive; when it's not, the feedback changes.
  • Learning: Your brain learns to adjust and create the desired patterns to keep the positive feedback going, much like learning a video game, leading to lasting changes in brain function.

What it's used for:

  • Mental Health: Anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, addiction.
  • Cognitive Issues: ADHD, focus problems, memory issues, traumatic brain injury (TBI).
  • Other Conditions: Migraines, sleep disorders, reducing stress-induced muscle spasms.

Key points:

  • It's painless, non-invasive, and doesn't involve drugs.
  • Sessions are typically 20-30 minutes but the initial session may last up to 60 minutes depending on which and the number of conditions you want treated.
  • A course might involve 20-40 sessions, often 2-3 times a week.
  • It trains the brain directly, rather than just behaviors or thoughts
